This SuperTuscan, predominately Sangiovese, has 5% Colorino blended into it. This second Tuscan indigenous grape gives a dark ruby red color to the wine. The nose is a delicate balance of fruit and oak, with scents of ripe berries, vanilla and coffee. It is full-bodied on the palate, impeccably balancing sweet tannins, wood and acidity with a long, fine finish. After harvesting the grapes in the middle of September, they are left in temperature-controlled rotofermenters for 6-7 days, then transferred to oak for malolactic fermentation. Ageing takes place entirely in new, medium-toasted French-oak tonneaux (500l) for 12-14 months. After the wood has imparted its flavors, the wine is transferred to stainless steel vats for 3 months before bottling, then left to age in the cellar for another 3-4 months before release.
